5 Steps for Successful Weight Management

(Thanks to the owner of this photo via Mr. Google)

I was looking for some stuff in my drawer when I dug up Vitamin World's pamphlets. I got them when I signed up for membership two years ago.

I find them very interesting so I thought to share them here.

5 Steps for Successful Weight Management:

1. Evaluate where you are.
A common mistake people make when embarking on a weight management program is setting a goal before taking an assessment of where they are starting from. This leads to unrealistic goals and is a recipe for almost certain failure

2. Set more than one goal.
Set a REALISTIC overall goal, and several intermediate goals that fill the space between where you are and where you want to be.

3. Tell everybody what you are doing.
Accountability and cheerleading section are wonderful things.

4. Dont be too hard on yourself.
Remember that you are only human, and that you are doing something that takes determination.

5. Reward yourself.
Reward yourself with a pat on the back every time you reach a goal, maybe in a form of of a long look at yourself in the mirror followed by a big smile, or a new outfit that shows off your new shape!

I gained 9 lbs. after my trip to the Philippines. My normal weight was 125lbs and it went up to 134 lbs. I panicked so I've been watching my diet since then by eating brown rice, fish, veggies, fruits and very small portion of meat only. Also, I go brisk walking every afternoon amidst chilliness since winter is already approaching.

I haven't weighed myself lately but I know I lost a lot of weight already because I can wear my old pants again. Thank you Lord.

More health tips coming up!

Victoria's Secret Pink Supersoft Body Lotion from a Friend

Can't wait to drench :)

Made in USA it is

Thank you Ann Visser for this very lovely present you gave even though there is no such special occasion. But hey, perhaps you gave me this as a belated birthday gift? September was just around last month. Or, maybe... it was an advanced Christmas gift? December is just around the corner, you know :)

For whatever it is, thank you very much. I appreciate it a lot.

Thanks for dropping by at my page.

Have a good one!

Photos of Piolo Pascual and KC Concepcion in New York

Thanks to the owner of the photos. These photos were taken during their rehearsal for their upcoming concert tour with Yeng Constantino.

Do they look like they are back in each other's arm?

In my own judgement, I don't think they are back together again. The concert tours has been scheduled long before they broke up so they have to do what they have to do.

Thanks for visiting my site.

Have a good one!

The Logo: Pink ribbons are seen everywhere

A short program was conducted before the walk

Carol with her friends.

Carol is ready to get set and go :)

Haggard-looking me.

Fast walkers. We are behind them.

Carol has walked 3km already!

In a water station. Nice posing girl :)

Done! We got fans after the walk :)

Proud me :)

During my recent trip to the Philippines to visit my teeners and my loved ones, my cousin Carol, who is an Avon Manager, invited me to join Avon's Race to 125,000 Kisses Walk held last October 2, 2011, at the SM Parking Area, Ecoland, Davao City. By buying the Avon T-shirt, I was able to help breast cancer patients.

I only had few hours of sleep the night before so it was really very tiring yet very fulfilling.

Looking forward to joining the same cause here in US.

Thanks for visiting my site.

Have a good one!

John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao Break up

John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao

Trending in the showbiz world yesterday was the "unconfirmed" break-up of  John Lloyd Cruz and Shaina Magdayao. As per Philippine Portal Entertainment.ph' source, the couple have just parted their ways.

Before the so called break-up, the couple attended Bea Alonzo's Birthday bash last October 8 at The Fort Entertainment Complex, in Bonifacio Global City and John Lloyd's ex girlfriend, Ruffa Gutierrez was also there. After the party, allegedly, Shaina sent text messages to Ruffa using John Lloyd's celphone.

Also, Shaina got jealous because she saw John Lloyd and his another ex-girlfriend, Liz Uy talking to each other at Bea Alonzo's party.

Obviously, Shaina is insecure and jealous.

In my POV, it was John Lloyd who broke up with Shaina because the latter had described their relationship as "boring" during an interview before their relationship got sour. I think it's not just boring, I would say, "struggling."

Well, as the song goes, "The trouble with hello is goodbye."

Have a good one!

Yep, it's blank

Just like my mind right now. It's blank.

I want to write something but I can't think of that something.

I am wondering if  it is a sign of ... PMSing?

Oh boy, but I am only 39!

Whatever it is, I hope it is only temporary, lol!

5 Powerful Foods that Lower Blood Pressure

Got this article from a friend's Facebook status. I thought to blog it because it is very informative. Check it out!

artichokes help lower blood pressure1. Artichokes
The use of artichokes has been implicated in the lowering of cholesterol levels in the blood. Since hypercholesterolemia is one of the risk factors for high blood pressure, this information is actually good news.  Three clinical trials conducted separately by Dr. Barbara Wider supports this fact. In Cochrane Database of Systemic Reviews’ October 2009 issue, where the result of the study was published, it was shown that patients who were diagnosed with hypercholesterolemia and given Artichoke leaf extract exhibited a decrease in their blood cholesterol levels.
Artichokes taste amazing steamed (generally steam for about 1 hour) and then dip each piece into a mixture of olive oil, grass-fed butter, and garlic.  Delicious!

bananas cut high blood pressure2.  Bananas
A study published in The New England Journal of Medicine says that incorporating bananas in your day-to-day meals can actually cut stroke-related deaths by as much as 40 percent. A 1997 study at Johns Hopkins University recommended eating at least five bananas daily to achieve the desired effect, and that is to lower elevated blood pressure levels. However, a study conducted by Indian researchers at the Kasturba medical college revealed that people who eat two bananas a day, for one whole week, can lower their blood pressure levels by 10 percent.
Bananas are rich in potassium, which is responsible for the proper functioning of the heart.  It works with sodium to maintain balance of the body’s fluids, which is an important factor in the regulation of blood pressure.

compounds in beets beat blood pressure3.  Beets

A research study conducted by scientists from Barts and The London School Medicine revealed that simply drinking one 500 ml glass of beetroot juice each day can produce astounding health benefits, especially to the heart.
Beetroot juice has been found to lower high blood pressure levels. Professors Amrita Ahluwalia and Ben Benjamin, from the William Harvey Research Institute and Peninsula Medical Center, respectively, led the research efforts, which revealed that the consumption of dietary nitrate that is found in beetroot has BP-lowering effects in as fast as 1 hour after ingestion, with the effect lasting for up to 24 hours. The result of the study was published in the March 2008 issue of Hypertension.
You can try beetroot juice, or also try baked beets sliced on salads or as a side dish to dinner.

cocoa helps lower blood pressure4.  Cocoa

A study conducted by researchers from Germany’s University Hospital of Cologne revealed that cocoa can significantly lower high blood pressure levels. Study results were published in the Archives of Internal Medicine. The beneficial heart effects of cocoa are attributed to its flavonoid content, specifically procyanids.
Because cocoa is most commonly found in chocolate, people falsely assume that eating a lot of chocolate could be good for the health. Keep in mind that cocoa in chocolates have undergone a lot of processing, and it has been mixed with loads of sugar, so this is not totally healthy. The best way to take advantage of the health benefits offered by cocoa is to choose raw cacao – it is good for the heart, the brain and the liver.  Raw cacao nibs go great in smoothies!  Also use organic cocoa powder in smoothies or homemade hot cocoa sweetened with stevia instead of sugar.

garlic fights hypertension5.  Garlic

Researchers from South Australia’s University of Adelaide have conducted studies, which provide solid proof that the consumption of garlic can indeed help lower elevated blood pressure levels. Garlic supplements in powder form were given and results revealed that it produced a reduction in systolic blood pressure. Garlic has been known all over the world as a very important herb, especially with its heart-protecting capabilities. It helps lower blood cholesterol levels and prevents blood from forming clots (which could lead to heart attack and stroke).
Furthermore, the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences journal has published the results of a laboratory test showing how garlic juice can lead to a decrease in blood pressure levels. Eating the equivalent of 2 cloves of garlic each day can significantly contribute to the health of the heart.

I like artichokes, banana and cocoa, and maybe garlic too :) I haven't tried beets yet. I am wondering what beets taste like.

I'm gonna forward this post to my friend Emy because she has been monitoring her blood pressure lately. Maybe it could help.

Have a good one!

My First DIY Underarm Wax

I've been looking for an underarm hair remover that is very handy and affordable since I quit shaving. Going to the beauty salon costs me a lot so I bought Sally Hansen Remover Strip Kit  to save some bucks.

I was like, "Ouch!" Well, that was expected though, hehehe! There were still few hair left behind so I plucked them.

The package says:
Nothing works quicker or lasts longer.
Three simple steps; pre-waxed, pre-cut strips. Removes even stubborn hair for up to 8 weeks.
    • No microwave, no mess
    • Regrowth is less noticeable
    • Salon and dermatologist tested.
Contains:
    • 30 Wax Strips Total (15 Double-Sided)
    • Azulene finishing oil 0.5 fl. oz.
Made in USA
  • Procedure:
  1. Warm strip in hands
  2. Separate double-sided strips
  3. Press on, pull off
  4. Pat it with the finishing oil afterwards

So far so good. We'll see what's gonna happen in the next few days.

Have a good one!

Another Red apple tree with Yuny
Green Apple Tree
More apple trees! (green and red)
Small but fruitful :)

My friends Emy, Yuny and Pinky

Pretty!

Yep, it's obvious that we went out for walking not for picture taking, hehehe! Well, the beauty of the surroundings is such irresistible. Can't stop clicking the camera on my cellphone :)

Seriously, it's nice to go walking at this time of the season because the weather is cool. And I get to see different fruit bearing trees especially apple trees along the way. I remember when we passed by at a big house with apple orchard, I smelled something very pleasing... a scent of an apple. Yummy smell. Mm-mm.

Looking forward to walking again tomorrow.

Have a good one!

The Best Internal Medicine Physician in Davao City, Philippines

****I would like to inform everyone that this is not a paid post. Thank you.****

I pigged out while I was in the Philippines last month.

I chomped everything edible that came my way.

Unfortunately, my body did not like it. My mother had noticed it one morning that my legs and arms were swollen. I didn't even feel it until I couldn't put on my pants anymore. It really scared the hell out of me!

After I had my blood, urine and other kind of tests in Philippine Nikkei Jin Kai Clinic (through the help of my sister in-law Helen), my cousin Carol and I went to San Pedro Hospital to look for a doctor who specializes Internal Medicine for a thorough check-up and to explain the tests results to me. We found a lady doctor but I was not satisfied with what she had done to me and what she had told me. She recommended to do more tests which she did not elaborate why.

Needless to say, I went to another doctor for a "second opinion", kind of. Carol took me to the Community Health and Development Cooperative (CHDC) Hospital. The hospital building was not impressive to me but I trust my cousin's judgement so I went ahead. The women's restroom was squeaky clean (hats off to the person who does the cleaning.)

Anyway, the lady in the information window sent us to (if my mind serves me right) Room 222 to see my doctor. Dr. Cecilia M. Cayudong-Fuentes is the name of my Internist. She checked on me the same way my doctor here in US does to me. She recommended more tests like Ultrasound on my abdomen and another urine test for her to determine what else she could find and to determine what kind of medicine she is going to prescribe with matching explanation why I had to do this and do that. I obeyed.

The following day, I went back to her clinic with the Ultrasound and urine tests results on hand. She explained the results in a very detailed manner. There is nothing that can be missed because she explained everything very clearly. Then we chitchatted for a while. I asked if we could pose for a souvenir and she agreed, so Carol took us some pictures but unluckily, the SD Card of my cellphone got damaged so all photos has been deleted.

In case you need an Internist or Internal Medicine Doctor in Davao City, look for Dr. Cecilia C. Fuentes and if you don't mind, please mention this blog for me, okay? Thank you much!

I Can't Stop Crying

No. It's not what you think. I'm perfectly fine :)

It's just that I am watching the old movie "Pretty Woman" right now, starring Richard Gere and Julia Roberts and I can't stop crying! Crazy me.

I have watched this movie for I think 5 times already but I just love to watch it over and over again. I shed tears all those times like it was my first time watching it. Crying while watching drama movie or reading a good romance book is really my weakness. I'm easily get carried away. And I hate it.

Silly me.

Crazy me.

Views of Apple Trees

My neighbor's apple tree, hehehe!

We have one apple tree at the back but the fruits are almost gone unnoticed. They almost all fell in the ground.

Back to the neighbor's apple, shh... I can pick one or two or more anytime because they don't care anyway. They have two apple trees. One time, I talked to the kids and I ask them why they did not harvest the fruits, they said they are not good though. They were so damned wrong because the apples are really sweet and kind of crunchy! Brat kids, hehehe!

Actually, my Pinay friend Ann and I have just picked a bagful of apples from that tree for her. If I have company tomorrow, I would pick some for us,shh!

I wish I could send them to the Philippines for my family via Balikbayan box :)

Just my wishful thinking.

Have a good one!
