My First Train (AMTRAK) Ride Experience

I had a wonderful first train ride experience. It was nice and smooth. It was somewhat educational. And most of all, it was complimentary!

My daughter Jen and I resorted to ride a train going to Reno for an important appointment since hubby had to work that day.

I called the 1-800 numbers of AMTRAK for seats reservation but it was a hassle since it's only a machine that answers the call. Anyway, after many attempts, I was able to make reservations for two and decided to pay it on the train.

The Winnemucca station is very small. There were only five or six people waiting inside a shed. The wind was  blowing cold air, burr!  As soon as I hopped on the train, I remember riding an air conditioned bus back home. I was excited. A black lady came to orient us where to find the restrooms, lounge, dining place, etc. It was cool!

The train  left Winnemucca around 6:05am instead of its regular departure time at 5:30am. I was expecting that the ride must be bumpy and loud but I was wrong! It was very smooth and quiet.

I was sleepy but I did not sleep because I waited for the conductor to issue tickets and to get the fare. I saw the conductor who greeted me and my daughter in the station issuing ticket to the other passengers then he came to our seat, greeted us again then post  a ticket in the iron bar up in our head. We smiled back and thought he'd come back. He did not. I started to wonder.

The Chief Conductor, Ms. Janis Mader came instead. I have met her months ago when she came to the hotel one morning. AMTRAK Conductors have been staying in the sister hotel  like forever and I get to talk to the incoming conductor every morning to transfer the call to Ms. Mader's room or to whoever is the in-charge of the AMTRAK going to California. The sister hotel has nobody in graveyard shift so calls go to the hotel where I work. And our shuttle driver takes them to the AMTRAK station every morning.

Ms. Mader greeted us. She asked if everything was okay. She offered to tour us inside the train. At first we were kinda ashamed but we took her offer anyway. So she took us to every part of the train. I didn't know that every "compartment" of the train is called "car", haha! I like the lounge car because it is where you can enjoy the view, read a book or chitchat with other passengers. She took us to the dining car, to the sleepers,  and down to the lower part of the train where a nice man offered us something to drink which I declined but Jen got hot chocolate for free.

While we were walking, I attempted to ask Ms. Mader about the tickets but she just ignored me totally. She was too focused in telling us about the train.

Jen- she didn't like the idea of taking her picture with people behind her =)

Ms. Mader is camera shy so my daughter did not take photo of us together. The tour stopped at the lounge. We stayed there for awhile after Ms. Mader left. I was hoping to see her again before we get to Reno to express my heartfelt thanks but I never get to see her again until we hopped off.

I bought a thank you card for her the following day and sent it through the shuttle driver.

This has been my first train experience here in US. It was nice and smooth. It was kind of educational  and it was amazing that we didn't pay a dime on this wonderful experience. Wasn't it cool?

Have a good one!

Sarah Geronimo on YES! Magazine March 2011 Issue

The Philippine Pop Princess Sarah Geronimo finally breaks her silence regarding her first heartache and break-up with Rayver Cruz  in YES! Magazine.

YES! also vents the side of Sarah's mom Mommy Divine, her close friends Sharon Cuneta, Judy Ann Santos and Beth Tamayo, her PA Anna Dasig, love team John Lloyd Cruz, Rayver Cruz and Cristine Reyes.

Sarah chose not to speak about the issue between her and  Rayver Cruz and Cristine Reyes when their love triangle made a bang last year so I supposed this is something to read about!

This issue also features Pnoy's new girl, Kristine and Oyo Boy Sotto's Wedding, Willie Revillame, Princess Punzalan and Willie's new found love  (but not reciprocated yet?) in the person of Shalani Soledad, Pnoy's ex-girlfriend.

Pretty interesting huh?

Filipino-Canadian Maria Aragon Makes Lady Gaga Cry

Just found this video while surfing the net:

Lady Gaga tweeted: "Can't stop crying watching this. This is why I make music. She is the future."...

The international superstar refers to this 10 year-old girl who identifies herself in her YouTube channel page as Miia Maria. "I was born and raised by Filipino parents in Canada, so it makes me Canadian, too! :) Although I've never been to the Philippines," she posted in her YouTube channel.

She said she never took any music lessons and figured out the piano chords by herself and by ear.

This girl can be the next Charice Pempengco! What jaya think?

Manny Pacquiao Visits White House to Meet with President Obama

Our very own "Pambansang Kamao" Manny Pacquiao, the eight-time boxing World Champion, visits White House to meet with President Barrack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden, February 15, 2011. Reports says his wife Jinkee was with him and the couple had lunch with the two most powerful men in the world.

According to Pacquiao's publicist Fred Stenburg, "Manny said it was very impressive being in the Oval Office, seeing it first hand. He said it was a great honor to meet the President of the United States. He also said that the President is a very tall man." Stenburg also said Manny Pacquiao caused a heavy traffic when motorists stopped trying to take photos of him with cell phones when they saw him crossing the street near the White House.

He invited the President to watch his fight against Mosley but the President has to work that day but promised to follow the fight on TV.

The boxing champ received three grocery bags full with light blue M&M chocolates with presidential seal design and a watch with presidential seal logo from the President.

The said visit was personally arranged by Nevada's Senator, Harry Reid. Manny Pacquiao endorsed the Senator's candidacy during last year's election.

Happy Love Day!

Amen!

So what did you get from your hubby, boyfriend, or your loved ones today?

I didn't get one today. But I got a heart-shaped box of chocolate on the first day of this month from hubby. I got it in advance, geez. Both my daughter and my son got one too. Hubby is such a sweet person.

Oh I almost forgot, hubby sent me a JibJab Valentine video link on my email yesterday. It was too funny that I laughed my a** off when I opened it. I tried posting the link here but it did not work when I clicked it, sigh.

I only have Valentines card for hubby but I'd stay awake for him to give him my sweetest kiss and my warmest hug when he gets home tonight. Hey, if you get nothing today, remember, it doesn't mean that your loved ones care you less.

To sum it up, a box of chocolate and a 2- minute laugh made my day.

Love, love, love!

Have a good one!

Album of the Year: The Suburbs- Arcade Fire

Record of the Year: Need You Now- Lady Antebellum
Song of the Year: Need You Now- Lady Antebellum

Best New Artist- Esperanza Spalding

Best Female Pop Vocal Performance: Bad Romance- Lady Gaga
Best Pop Music Album: The Fame Monster- Lady Gaga

Best Male Pop Vocal Performance: Just The Way You Are- Bruno Mars

Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals: Hey, Soul Sister (Live)- Train

Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals: Imagine- Herbie Hancock and

Pink

I've never heard of The Arcade Band! (Sorry to the fans out there) But I am sure it's not just an ordinary band otherwise their Album would not be chosen as the best among the rest.

I so like the song "Need You Now" even if it's been played at work like twenty times  (just exaggerating, hehe) during my entire shift five nights a week since this song became a hit.

Lady Gaga, oh my goodness, this lady is such a gaga in the truest sense of the word in  the way she dresses. Her ''out of this world'' outfits has always been amusing to me. I like her music too. She deserved the two awards she garnered.

Bruno Mars who's mom is a Filipina (my kababayan!) is another pride of the Pinoys. I heard that he is visiting the Philippines next month if my mind serves me right, for a concert in Manila and Cebu. Cool!

Like The Arcade Band, I am not familiar with Esperanza Spalding, Train, Herbie Hancock and Pink, sorry guys.

Congratulations!
