Since summer months are time for fun under the sun, make sure to take the proper steps to protect yourself and your family. Skin cancer is not that bad when caught at an early stage so have your Doctor check for signs of skin cancer.  Wear 50 SPF or more before going outside.

Skin cancer facts:

More than 90 percent of all skin cancers are found on parts of the body that get the most sun: face, neck,ears, hands, and arms.

Those who have had severe or many sunburns are at higher risk.

Asymmetry: One half doesn't match the other half.

Border Irregularity: The edges of a mole or growth are ragged, notched, or blurred.

Color: The pigmentation of a mole is not uniform. Shades of tan, brown, and black are present.

Diameter: The mole or skin growth is larger than 6mm (0.2 in), or about the size of a pencil eraser. Any growth of a mole should be of concern.

Evolution: There is a change in the size, shape, symptoms (such as itching or tenderness), surface (especially bleeding), or color of a mole.

My Bruno Mars Experience

It was fantastic! HOWEVER, it was a little bit disappointing.

I got to witness the superb performance of Bruno Mars on April 30, 2019 at the Park Theater in MGM Casino, Las Vegas, Nevada with my co-worker Mary Rose and her 2 nieces. The concert supposed to start 9:00 o'clock so we checked in an hour early. We were very excited! BUT to our dismay, they took our phones, locked it inside an individual pouch then gave it back to us. I was like, “What is happening?”  You know when you buy a pair of Levi’s or any expensive clothes, they have this black or white plastic thing for theft protection and only the cashier  can take it off using an electronic tool? That’s how the lock of the pouch looks like only smaller. We were very disappointed! We were caught off guard! I did not even get to inform my husband!

The venue was pretty much big and full. The people started getting impatient after 9:20pm and the show hasn’t started yet. Mary Rose and I were like, “Is this going to be a Filipino time?” Hehe! Because Bruno Mars is half-Filipino, right?

We started screaming when the stage curtain rolled up slowly then we saw Bruno Mars and his group singing! The lights effects are awesome! With the screaming and whistling of the crowd plus the music, it got really loud that I had to protect my ears ( I did not want to spend another $317.00!), I took the ear plugs from my bag and wear them. It was still loud but my ears felt a lot better.

Bruno Mars is not tall (5'5")! He looks so little being surrounded with his tall band members! He wore a white sleeveless shirt underneath his long orange printed all-button down long sleeves shirts, blue jeans and white sneakers. He was wearing a kinda head band and his curly hair was exposed. As I was looking at him, I actually was thinking about his shirts, hehe! It was not really fancy but, dang, he is the cutest! He was teasing us about our phone being locked. He said he could do what he wants, could even take his shirts off and no one can record it and while he was saying that, he smiles like a naughty boy and it was priceless!

The concert went on for 95mins and when it was over, it was already a little past 11pm!

The unlocking of phones was pretty cool and amazing, the theater people just stood by the exit door holding and clicking a tool, (they didn't need to hold the pouch), and voila! The pouch was unlocked! When I got my phone, I got a dozen of text messages from my husband and miscalls trying to get hold of me, wondering what was going on (He was a little scared  letting me go to concerts after the bombing in Las Vegas).

Aside from the phone issue, it was a night full of blast!

A Day At Work As a Miner

I am miner. I learned that anyone who works for a mine is called a miner. If you were a nurse or a doctor in a clinic own by the mine, you are a miner.

I work for Round Mountain Gold Corporation located in Nye County, Nevada. It is owned by Kinross Gold Corporation, a Canadian based company. My position is Assay Lab Technician and I do different kinds of stuff but my main job is fire assay. I have been in the company for 5 years and 8 months as of this posting.

Because the mine is not that far from the subdivision where I live, the driving is only 7-10 mins to and fro. I knew lots of miners who have to ride a bus for an hour or so before they could get to their workplace. Actually, my husband who is now retired, had experienced it before from a different mining company. No fun.

I would arrive in the Assay Lab before 6:00 AM during day shift, before 6:00 PM during night shift. At 6:00 everyone is expected to be at the lunch room for a safety meeting. It's like an everyday briefing for everyone or an everyday reminder to work safely because SAFETY is a big thing in RMGC. It is a number one priority. The lunch room slash break room is cozy. We have oven, refrigerator and cold water/ ice machine. We take turns in sharing a safety topic, anything about safety or anything going on at the mine can be a safety topic. Whoever gives the safety topic would say something about it or would elaborate it and write it down on a predated paper with all our names on it, then affix our initial next to our respective names.

Then I'd go to the locker room to change. It has 2 bathrooms and 2 shower rooms but we use the latter rarely. I actually never used it. The locker room is big and I have 2 lockers under my name. We wear scrubs (tops and pants) at work and the company provide them. If you do not want to wear scrubs, it is up to you. But why would someone not?

Afterwards, with the inspection sheet on hand, I would do a workplace inspection, write down notes if I find any hazards and correct it right away and sign it before submitting it. Sometimes I would do this first before changing my work clothes. After that, I'd start working. We take two breaks: breakfast and lunch.

At the end of the day, I would change clothes and the oncoming crew would take care of our scrubs (drying and folding) after we put them in the washer before we leave. I work 12 hours per shift for 7 days then I get 7 days off afterwards. The schedule is perfect. We feel like we are on vacation every other week. The operation in the Assay Lab is 24 hours, hence, the weird schedule.

Like any other jobs, there are fun days and there are challenging days at work but I love my job and I like the people I work for and I work with. I can not imagine myself working in another company so I would safely say, I am not going anywhere, unless the mine will shut down.
