"French Toast"

I have always love Pinoy foods. I always want to eat them three times a day here in this foreign land.

So do my teeners.

Obviously, hubby always loves American foods. He always wants to eat them for breakfast, lunch and dinner too.

Sigh!

This has been my problem since my teeners and i got here!

We discussed it. I found out that he was feeling the same way while he was in the Philippines!

Poor poor Ricardo.

I guess we need to compromise!

So we agreed to eat American foods if he feels to.

And he did. This morning! We had French toast.

Gosh!

I honestly didn’t like it! I feel like I want to throw-up in front of him!

Gees, my teeners didn’t like it either!

Poor poor bechay, jen and jun.

Huhuhu!

We just pretended anyway.

There are just times that we have to give way for the people we love with no hard feelings.

I love Ricardo.

My teeners adored their Daddy.

We can’t afford to hurt him.

So, everybody is happy now!

My Life in 5th Gear

This is a repost taken from my old blogsite.

I would like to share this essay, which I wrote during my Writing Class with one of the ESL teachers Ms. Meredith. We were discussing a tear jerking story and the author shared his fast-paced life or his life in “ 5th gear”. We were told to write the same.

My Life in 5th Gear

When I was in my mid-20s, I lived my life in 5th gear.

Being a single parent, I held responsible for my two children. I worked in the Legislative Office. I continued my college education. I regularly spent time with my friends as well.

I woke up at 5:30 in the morning to prepare foods for my children. I made it sure that they get everything they need before they go to school. When they are ready, I took them along the highway at around 6:45 in the morning until they get a ride going to school. Afterwards, I rushed myself to take a bath and go to the office before 8:00 o’clock in the morning. I go to school after office hours until 9:00 o’clock in the evening. I usually get home late from school and when I get home, I check my children’s books and notebooks to make it sure that they did their homework given by their teachers before they went to bed and also to know if there are assignments that they didn’t understand so that I could discuss it to them in the morning while they are eating their breakfast. I usually get to bed late during weeknights.

If needed, I go to my children’s school to attend Parents Teachers Association Meeting, sometimes to bring snacks or lunch for them and to give moral support to any of them in whatever activities they are into. During weekends, I do the laundry and do house chores as well. I thought I couldn’t live without friends so I find time to be with them once in awhile or during weekends, which made my mom sooo mad. I had to do all these things in order to get by every single day of that particular phase of my life.

Now, having thoughts of what I went through is making me feel like I had been in a race against time.

But having good kids like Jen and Jun is all worth it.

How about you?

Have you ever experienced life in 5th gear?

My First Drive-Thru Bank Transaction

I always love to share my "firsts" here but there are times that I get lazy and just want to read rather than to write. I had this first experience last month but I was too lazy to post it.

Anyway, as what I've wrote in my previous blogs, bank transaction here in US can be done thru drive-thru, just like food establishment like Jack in the Box, Mc Donald or KFC, etc. Hubby got my name included in his bank account so that I can have money anytime I need or anytime I pay bills without him so I now have my own debit card and a checkbook.

I needed to pay one of our bills, as usual, I requested my ever supportive friend Brenda, to take me to the bank since Ricardo has to work. I have a car and I know how to drive but I don't have a Driver's License yet though I have Instructions Permit but that doesn't allow me to drive. Nathalie was with us that time because we would go to the bowling lanes and we would proceed there afterwards.

I wanted to try the drive-thru so Brenda drove through the bank premises, she stopped in front of a kind of ATM. I did not have idea that it was already the “drive-thru”. I was imagining the drive-thru in the Jack in the Box, hehehe! I couldn't describe what it looks like. No one was there to talk to. The bank itself is more or less 30 meters away from where we were. I think, the best example is a gasoline station, yes, the drive-thru in the bank looked like that :) There is a screen in the machine and I could see Brenda and myself in it, suddenly a face of a woman appeared in the screen and greeted us, “Hi, how can I help you?” I was startled when I saw and heard it! Ahahahaha! I was really surprised! As in I laughed out to the max! My reaction was really funny! Brenda greeted back and then she took my check and deposit slip and she put them in a canister-like stuff, which she got inside the machine, then she put it back to the machine. The canister-like stuff was sucked up inside the machine and Brenda explained that the teller inside the bank would get it to process the deposit transaction. It was indeed amazing! Cool! Kudos to the Americans! We don’t have drive-thru bank in the Philippines! Nathalie was in the backseat and was amazed too but she just grinned, hehehehe!

It was ridiculous! I don't get ashamed of Brenda anymore because I have always been comfortable with her. But I was ashamed when she said that the teller in the bank could see and hear us! Whaaat? Waaaah! What a shame! I was sure she was laughing because of my reaction! After a few minutes, the canister popped and voila! I got my deposit receipt! Very convenient, huh?

Americans has an easy and convenient life. They don't need to exert effort in almost everything that's why most of them are fat. Sssshh...

I was still laughing out loud when we left the bank. Shocks!
