Winter 2010

I like it when it snows because it makes the surroundings bright and pretty. On the other hand, I dislike it because the coldness makes me shiver to the bone. Brrr...

Last winter, my kids were in the Philippines so I was lonely. Now that they are here, we are planning to go to Mt. Rose in Reno to enjoy some winter sports like skiing, sledding, skiboarding, among others. We are already excited for it. God willing, this plan would be pushed through.

Last week, it snowed a lot and the temperature went down to negative one degrees, brrr (again).

Here  are some photos that I would like to share:

More posts and photos coming up. Thanks for dropping-by.

So long!

Thanksgiving Day

"Thanksgiving: a time where pilgrims gave my people diseases.. killed them off and stole their food", says my Native American former co-worker, Traci Gelskey via Facebook. Hubby said something to that effect too when I asked him about Thankgsiving celebration three years ago.

Yup, it's my third Thanksgiving here in US and it is only this year that I exerted effort in cooking Turkey which I got free from my employer. Roasted turkey is the main dish prepared during Thanksgiving Day.

There are too many Turkey recipes online but I chose to cook mine with Filipino touch. Aside from putting butter, salt and pepper inside and out, I put onion, lemonsito from the Philippines given to me by Emy who just got back from her vacation there, and "Tanglad" (which I bought from Manila-Hongkong Store in Reno), inside the cavity of the turkey. I remember during my son's baptism when he was still a baby, we had "Litsong Pabo or Turkey"  roasted outside in an "open fire" and it tasted really good!

I haven't tried my turkey yet since it was done. Looking at it makes me already full. Hubby said it was perfect and he requested a turkey sandwich for his lunch or "baon" today.

Aside from roasted turkey, my daughter made her favorite "puto cheese" and it was really yummy! I also baked hubby's fave Fudge Brownie.

This is how we celebrated our Thanksgiving. No stuffing. No sweet potatoes. No pumpkin pie.

It was a Thanksgiving celebration ala Pinoy =D

Cheers!

New Tourism Slogan: Pilipinas Kay Ganda!

There have been a widespread criticism of this logo since the Department of Tourism unveiled it as Philippines’ new Tourism slogan that describes the country's beauty and hospitality. Critics said it sounds so “baduy” and it is unintelligible although there is a translation.  This new tourism slogan's website http://www.beautifulpilipinas.com/ has been taken down because they later found out that the keywords "beautiful pilipinas" link to a porn site. Ayayay! In addition, Polish Tourism claimed that its design has been “copied” from their site, something to that effect.

At first I took it as being patriotic for using our very own language, "Tagalog" but I've realized it is about tourism so the message should draw attention from tourists. The number one reason why we promote our tourism is to attract foreigners to come and visit our beautiful country. Critics are right. This new slogan “Pilipinas kay Ganda” doesn’t sound “sellable” to foreigners and I agree, it sounds “baduy”. It must have been taken from ABS-CBN’s morning show, "Umagang Kay Ganda" =D I am just kidding.

If we could not come up a better slogan to replace our old, "WOW Philippines", why should we change it? Just because we have new administration doesn't mean we have to change everything.

Hey, people of the DOT, can we just stick to our old slogan? "WOW Philippines" is way better than "Pilipinas Kay Ganda", duh!

Trick or Treat 2010 (Better Late than Never) =D

I'ts been awhile since my last post. I was just being lazy or shall I say, I just felt uninterested in blogging for awhile.

At this time, I am quite lazy too but I just can't help to post photos taken during the trick or treating ocassion last October 31st.

Like the other year's trick or treat (my teeners were in the Philippines last year) we asked the children to have their pictures taken first before we gave them candies. The difference was that my daughter was dressed up as "Witch" this year =D

Here are the photos:
